SANTA FE (KRQE) - State police indefinitely suspended the search Saturday for missing hunter, but Mel Nadel's family isn't giving up.
Sunday, Nadel's family continued the search themselves.
The 61-year-old Santa Fe businessman disappeared in the Pecos Wilderness last Sunday.
Saturday, 36 rescuers from the New Mexico State Police joined the 30 others already searching for Nadel. Crews used a Blackhawk helicopter and search dogs.
Then, they were still calling it a search and rescue mission. When no sign of Nadel or any new clues turned up, police suspended the search indefinitely.
Nadel's family gathered resources Sunday to continue the search on their own.
"If anybody is out there missing, it seems like you shouldn't really just give up and you know just let it like leave it hanging but I heard that if we find anything today any leads any evidence of anything that it'll be back on," Nadel's daughter Kristen Nadell said.
Sunday, the family headed to the Los Trigos Ranch to search along the river.
