CEDAR CREST, N.M. (KRQE) - One person was killed Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash on New Mexico 14 in the East Mountains, according to Bernalillo County deputies.
Sheriff's department spokesperson Erin Kinnard Thompson said a vehicle was trying to turn from southbound Highway 14 onto eastbound Sangre de Cristo Drive in Cedar Crest when he struck an Audi heading north.
The Audi then hit another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection on Sangre de Cristo.
The driver of the car that turned died on the scene, while a child in the Audi was taken to a hospital to be treated for his or her injuries, which Kinnard Thompson said do not appear to be life-threatening.
Nobody in the third car was injured.
No names have been released.
Only one lane of Highway 14 is open as of the last update, and only one direction of traffic is being allowed at a time. Deputies said traffic is congested, so drivers may wish to avoid the area.
