LANL under increased security

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) - There is still no word on why for the second day Los Alamos National Laboratory is under increased security.

That means vehicles and visitors have to go through extra checks.

Lab spokesman Kevin Roark said they never discuss reasons behind security alerts.

The order is exclusive to Los Alamos and not all of the nation's nuclear facilities.

Roark would not say if the order has anything to do with the lab's $213 million security system.

It's currently being installed around the lab's most sensitive nuclear facilities.

It was supposed to be up and running this summer but now it will take an addition $41 million and another six months.

Last month, five security workers were fired for taking unauthorized visitors to a lab shooting range.
