ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police have taken a registered sex offender from Kentucky into custody after he was found in a local motel room with missing 12-year old Albuquerque girl. The man was later identified as Craig Armstrong
The girl's family reported her missing to Albuquerque police on Sunday.
On Monday afternoon, some of the girls' friends contacted her family and told them the girl sent them text messages indicating she was at the Motel 6 at Coors Boulevard and Iliff Road.
"At this point, the Albuquerque Police Department is investigating the possiblity that the girl and this male may have met online," Albuquerque Public Safety spokesperson T.J. Wilham said.
The 24-year old man is still being questioned by Albuquerque police. Police do expect charges to be filed.
The man has a conviction in Kentucky for second-degree sexual assault against two victims who were 13 and 15 years old.
