ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police say efforts to reduce fatal crashes on highway 550 in San Juan County were successful.
The move came after six people died in alcohol-related crashes in six weeks on the highway between Bernalillo and Bloomfield.
New Mexico state police worked with the Sandoval County sheriff's department and Navajo Nation over an 18 week period to reduce the danger on the highway.
In that time, police say there were no injury accidents.
There were also 15 DWI arrests, also 1,100 and 83 citations for speeding.
Dozens of other citations were also issued.
