ALBUQUERQUE - Wherever the Lobos go, fans want to be there.
The huge crowd of fans at the NCAA tournament selection party at the Pit Sunday went wild when they find out the Lobos will go to San Jose, CA to play against Montana this coming Thursday.
Many told News 13 they’ll pack their bags to be there with their team.
”The Lobos are the baddest in the country right now,” fan Isaac Gomez said. “I’m not going to miss this for the world, I already have my tickets, and I’m there.”
Tailgaters Jeremy Pease and Ryan Costanza agreed.
“I'm going to be buying my tickets tonight,” Pease told News 13. “We'll definitely drive up there for the game,” added Costanza.
If the team wins Thursday, they’ll play again in San Jose Saturday.
“I'm retired person and so is my wife, Margie,” Tommy Chavez said. “We don't have anything to tie us down we can just get in a bus, plane, whatever and just go.”
Getting to the game isn’t cheap, though.
Website Travelocity.com shows roundtrip airfare from Albuquerque to San Jose is between $714 and $1,500.
Fan Aahren Griego said he can’t make it the game, but said he and his friends are keeping their fingers crossed for the team.
“Hopefully we kick some butt out there that's all we care about,” Griego said.
Lobo Athletics is partnering with a company called Anthony Travel, and options include airfare, hotels and car and van rentals.
The spokesperson for Anthony Travel told News 13 that operators are standing by to help Lobo fans plan a trip.
Getting to the game is one thing, staying in San Jose will cost fans some money as well.
Hotels on Travelocity.com start at $40 per night.
If you plan to travel by train, Amtrak can take you from Albuquerque to Los Angeles, then on to San Jose.
That will cost $164 one way.
If you want to drive, it’ll be wise to pack snacks and music, because it’s going to be a long, 16-hour drive.
