ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A man who drove the wrong way on Old Route 66 Thursday night forcing cars off the road hasn’t made his way to jail quite yet.

Investigators say 66-year-old Gaillard “Gill” Pryor was allegedly driving drunk when he started driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Old Route 66 near Tramway around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Several drivers, including deputies, had to avoid crashing into him head-on.  David Garcia told KRQE he saw headlights coming his way moments before Pryor swiped in the side of his vehicle.

Garcia followed Pryor for ten miles before deputies eventually got him to pull over in Tijeras.

Pryor was supposed to be taken to jail after he was checked out by paramedics but Sheriff’s officials say he ended up being taken to the hospital.

Officials say the court will likely issue a summons for him to appear in court and if they have a hard time tracking him down they will issue a warrant.

Pryor faces charges of reckless driving, evading or resisting arrest, DWI, failure to maintain a lane and having an open container.
