ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A lot of people are joking about it and a lot of people believe it, either way the Mayan calendar doomsday talk has been good for some businesses around Albuquerque.

From themed pub crawls, to themed bar specials and a run on survival gear, it can all only mean one thing, 12-21-12 is the day the Mayan calendar ends and some have predicted with the end of the calendar, comes the end of the world.

Some people are seriously concerned about the Mayan calendar but others are looking just to have a good time. For instance, over at Nob Hill Bar and Grill the bartenders are mixing up end-of-days drinks and other specials they hope will ease the pain if the doomsday-sayers if right.

Kaufman's West a supply store has seen a lot of the serious types buying up emergency kits, ready to eat military meals and even these gas masks. It's a run on goods the store was expecting and they have seen sales increase easily 25 percent just because of this particular event.

The end of the Mayan calendar of course is not the first doomsday prediction. In fact its not even the first this year; that one came and went on May 27, 2012.
