ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - There are a few reminders for shoppers who will be taking advantage of cyber Monday deals for Christmas shopping.

When you're shopping on the major website, most of the time your purchases are safe. However, you want to double check and make sure that the website is secure. You can do that by checking that the site has the "https" in the search window. Also, most browsers will have a lock symbol in the lower right corner.

If you can, pay with a credit card. That way you can dispute the charges. A lot of cards these days protect you and won't make you pay anything if you get scammed.

If you're on a website you're not familiar with, remember the old saying, "If the deal sounds too good to be true it probably is."

"[It's] a lot easier, avoid the crowds and awesome deals," says Justin Crespin. "I think there was better deals there than even in the stores. So it's where I do most of my shopping anyway."

"I like it in person because there's no shipping and you can just, you can tell like shoes and clothes, it's easier just to be in person and try it on," says Allie McMillan who adds she might not be doing any cyber Monday shopping.

One more tip, you may want to keep all those e-mail receipts you get from the online purchases. That way you have proof of what you bought and if you have to return anything it'll make it that much easier. Also, if you don't get that perfect gift at a great deal on Monday, keep checking those websites up until Christmas. More stores say this year, cyber Monday is really just the beginning of the sales.
