SANTA FE (KRQE) - A group in Chimayo is asking the county for help after major development plans for a retreat came to light last year.
The Santa Fe County Commission voted unanimously in favor of a plan, saying the newly formed group, Chimayo Citizens Community Planning, had followed the necessary steps to work with the county.
The county and citizens will decide what infrastructure Chimayo needs.
The President of the group says the town must look at its needs before building a structure for tourists.
"Making sure we're not putting the horse before the wagon and having things develop faster than we can sustain," said Chimayo Citizens for Community Planning President Raymond Bal.
The business that wants to build the retreat says this may delay the project but adds that they will work closely with the community.
