LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - A pilot was taken to an Albuquerque hospital with leg injuries Tuesday morning after his single-seat plane crashed shortly after takeoff.
State police Lt. Gino Trujillo said the prop plane left the Mid-Valley Airport in Los Lunas headed to the Belen airport, and the pilot called 911 as he went down.
Trujillo said the pilot crash-landed in the backyard of a home near Los Lunas.
The pilot did not know the address, but told rescuers he was behind an adobe home.
Trujillo said a volunteer fire department employee found him there.
He said the pilot suffered injuries to his left leg and numerous cuts and was airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, about 35 miles away.
His name was not released.
