ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque neighborhood is redefining itself, and it's an idea that has been percolating for six years.
Concerned citizens met once again Saturday to discuss renaming the ethically diverse Southeast Heights.
They want to get rid of the negative attitude toward their neighborhood, and the name "The War Zone."
"We came up with several all revolving around international whether it be a neighborhood or a district, but truly that sense of diversity that we have here in the southeast heights area generally," Nancy Bearce with the La Mesa Community Improvement Association said.
District 6 City Councilor Rey Garduño said he's working with Sen. Tim Keller on a memorial resolution to call the community "The International District."
