'Breaking Bad' success carries into ABQ

Trolley Tour takes big fans to filmed locations

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Television executives aren't the only ones cashing-in on the growing craze surrounding "Breaking Bad".

An Albuquerque tour company started the very first "Breaking Bad" tour on the day of the show's fifth season premiere.

Small groups of some of the show's biggest fans got the scoop on how the show is filmed right here in Albuquerque.

City residents bought all of the tickets within 10 minutes of sales.

"We're always pointing out places in the show and it's just really cool because it feels like we're part of it too," said Albuquerque resident Melissa Martinez who rode the trolley Sunday.

The trolley ride drove to memorable locations for the TV show in all four corners of the metro.

They were even surprised by "Breaking Bad" actor Steven Michael Quezada.

The trolley company owners said they wanted to do this because they're big fans too.

"We started to get some folks that take our tour asking about 'Breaking Bad' more than normal, with the season coming up. We decided we wanted to do a 'Breaking Bad' tour," said ABQ Trolley Company owner Mike Silva.

Bryan Cranston, who stars as the show's anti-hero Walter White, knew it was just a matter of time before someone was going to capitalize in Albuquerque after the show's success. He saw people coming from all over the world to visit the scenes from the show.

"I know people are coming to Albuquerque specifically to go on the 'Breaking Bad' tour,'" said Bryan Cranston in an interview earlier this year.

The trolley owners planned on doing only one tour, but since it's been so popular they plan to have more. Future dates are expected to be announced later this summer.

This season of "Breaking Bad" will be broken up into two parts, the first half will have eight episodes.

The crew is scheduled to be back in Albuquerque in November to film the second half of season five.
