ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A Breaking Bad actor is throwing his support behind an effort to curb heroin use among Albuquerque teens.
Stephen Michael Quezada, who plays detective Steve Gomez on the show, helped host a fundraiser for a new drug treatment center.
The event was sponsored by the Heroin Awareness Committee which is made up of parents and loved ones who have lost their children to drug addictions.
New Mexico does not have a treatment center for teens and organizers say that makes it very hard to tackle addiction.
“Our main goal is to provide other people with what we didn't have for our kids,” Jennifer Weiss said. “So our kids that struggled with substance abuse we had to send them out of state because there were no treatment facilities here in the state.”
The group also focuses on education and awareness.
