ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (KRQE) - Blue the dog will continue to live leash free in Elephant Butte.
City officials have agreed to allow him to wandering without a leash, within the boundaries of an invisible fence.
The 11-year-old Australian cattle dog is sort of a town mascot, hanging out around the local general store.
City officials said they couldn't exempt one dog from the leash laws.
But after an hour of public pleas in a packed city council meeting Wednesday, officials decided to compromise by changing the law to include electronic fences.
