ISLETA PUEBLO, N.M. (KRQE) - An Amtrak train hit two pedestrians on the Isleta reservation south of Albuquerque, killing one, according to Amtrak and Isleta police.
The crash near the Isleta bridge happened at 5:37 p.m. Monday, according to Amtrak spokesperson Vernae Graham. Isleta police have not released the pedestrians' name, but have confirmed the person known to have died was a tribal member.
Graham said the westbound Southwest Chief No. 3 originated from Chicago on Sunday, bound for Los Angeles. The train was going about 78 miles per hour.
None of the 107 passengers on the train was hurt.
Augusta Meyers of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express said the commuter train's last trains were delayed south of the Sunport station in southern Albuquerque.
ABQ Ride and Los Lunas Transit buses transported Rail Runner passengers around the crash.
