ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A woman took to Facebook after one mailman in Albuquerque went out of his way to help her.

Monday started out like every other day for Cathryn McGill. She was working in her office at home when she heard someone at the door.

"I'm sitting here working and I hear this knock, McGill said. "I was pretty irritated because I was in the middle of something so I say -- who is it!"

Frustrated, McGill opened  the door and saw her postman.

"He hands me a $100 bill that's folded up and says 'I found this outside and wanted to make sure I returned this to you'" McGill said.

That postman, Mark Wells, says he saw the cash in McGill's driveway near her car. He says McGill was shocked when he handed her the money.

"You could have just picked me up off the floor. I couldn't believe that someone would actually give me $100 back in cash, and he did," McGill said. "I realized what he did was the complete definition of integrity."

Wells says he did what he thought was right.

"I didn't think twice about it. I don't think I did anything differently than any other carrier would have done. It's just a character issue. It's the way I was brought up," Wells said.

McGill says she was so shocked she didn't really get the chance to thank him, but she went on Facebook to share her story. Many other people also had shout outs for their letter carriers, with stories about them not only delivering mail but checking on the sick and elderly.

"C.S. Lewis said that integrity is what you do when no one is watching," McGill said.
