ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque Sunport officials say travelers should be aware of a few rules before boarding their flights during the Christmas season at the airport.
The best piece of advice is to get to the airport early enough, giving yourself time to park and get through security. The Transportation Safety Administration advises air travel passengers who might be carrying gifts on board with them to leave the item unwrapped. If TSA officials need to take a look at the item, the last you thing you want is for them to tear off the paper you wrapped it with. If you're not sure about what you can take or not take on board with you, the TSA has set up a question and answer table outside the screening area.
A family lane for people with special medical needs or traveling with children has been set up to get through lines faster at the security checkpoint.
"It's different from Thanksgiving in that things are a little more spread out while it is very busy, very steady, it's not a big rush of travelers at one time so things are moving very smoothly," says Albuquerque Sunport spokesman Dan Jiron.
Jiron also says that the foot traffic through the airport this year is relatively comparable to years past. He also says that's pretty much how Christmas travel goes at the Sunport, you never know when it will be super busy because people travel at odd times and days.
