ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Local firefighters are dropping their hoses and picking up a wrench instead, all for a good cause.
They are participating in Mattress Firm's Beds, Bikes and Tikes event.
A five person team, from the four Albuquerque fire districts are taking part.
They have put together more than 750 bikes for kids that will be distributed through local charities.
"We participated in all kinds of charitable events...and here we are,” Mattress Firm General Manager Alan Cronick said.
The two fastest fire departments will compete later this month at the UNM Pit.
The winners will receive a customized grill plus a catered dinner.
