ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Albuquerque Police Department NITe Squad, an acronym for what the team is doing, is now on the job, looking for property criminals.

The team is eight of the best the police department had to offer, all with different backgrounds, training, and skills.

Their prime mission is to make Albuquerque a bad place for criminals to do business.

We were allowed to ride along with an undercover officer, he told us, “The bad guys are looking over their shoulder cause they don't know where we are coming from .”

Mayor R.J. Berry felt the Albuquerque Police Department needed a more specialized unit to concentrate on people who commit property crimes, “Criminals work around the clock and so does Albuquerque police department.”

The team saturates parts of town where crime is highest, using techonolgy.

“We are getting night vision capabilities and phones and crime analysis,” said an Albuquerque detective and repeat property criminals are what they want, focusing on putting away those repeat offenders.
