ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque elementary school is getting some big improvements.

A ground breaking was held Monday morning for a $3.5 million renovation of Inez Elementary in northeast Albuquerque.

Built in the early 1950's, APS says the school is in dire need of a facelift.

”this is a school with new classroom additions, if you notice we have portables, we made a decision not to buy portables, so we're building new classrooms to get rid of the portables, get a new fine arts center, so that's kind of what we're doing,” APS Chief Operations Officer Brad Winter said.

The school is also getting a new cafeteria.

Work should be done by next October.
