ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - The Mexican Consulate in Albuquerque has awarded another $35,908 to the University of New Mexico Cancer Center's Hispanic outreach program.
The program, called Ventanilla de Salud, or Health Window, provides New Mexican Hispanics with culturally relevant health information and referrals to low-cost providers.
The consulate held a check-signing ceremony Tuesday where Consul Mauricio Ibarra Ponce de León presented the funding to UNM Cancer Center Director and CEO Dr. Cheryl Willman.
The partnership between the consulate and UNM Cancer Center was first launched in 2008. Since then, UNM says it has helped more than 30,000 New Mexicans receive potentially life-saving information and health referrals and has referred more than 500 for cancer-related diagnosis and treatment at the UNM Cancer Center.
