ROSWELL, N.M. (KBIM-KRQE) - The FBI has joined the Roswell Fire Department in trying to figure out what sickened eight people and forced the evacuation of the Roswell federal building Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded about 10 a.m. to a call about people becoming sick.
Initially one staff member at the Social Security Administration office began vomiting. By the time firefighters arrived another seven people had similar symptoms.
All were taken to the hospital.
Chief James Salas said the cause of the illnesses is a mystery.
"At this point we found the building clear," Salas said. "We weren't able to find any chemicals or any substances found in the building at this time."
Employees were allowed back into the building about 11 a.m.
