ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Legendary basketball coach Henry Sanchez has died of a heart attack.
Sanchez started feeling ill Monday afternoon and drove himself to Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, New Mexico where he died.
For over 40 years Sanchez coached his way to more than 700 victories with stops at New Mexico Highlands, Bernalillo High School and Las Vegas Robertson. Sanchez was so popular in Las Vegas that he even ran for mayor and won.
His former sports information director Jesse Gallegos calls Sanchez’s death a loss for the entire state.
Sanchez was 73 years old.
