ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A teacher at an Albuquerque high school was honored Wednesday for helping save the life of a student who had collapsed last month.
Marianne Evans, who teaches at Manzano High School, was honored at the Albuquerque Public Schools board meeting on Wednesday.
Last month, Nicholas Roldan, a 14-year-old freshman, collapsed. When she couldn't find a pulse or feel his breath, she performed CPR for 15 minutes and even used one of the school's defibrillators until paramedics arrived.
"Right before they were going to leave the room, I heard them say, 'He's got a pulse,'" she said. "And all I said was, you know, 'thank God.'"
Roldan was in a coma for a while, but came out of it with no permanent damage.
It's not clear what caused him to collapse.
