(KRQE) - A Roman Catholic priest at the St. Edwin Parish in Albuquerque's South Valley, Sanchez used DNA testing to confirm the Jewish heritage some members of his family had long suspected. He says his New Mexico roots go back hundreds of years, and he remembers certain family customs that made him suspicious. His grandmother used to tell her family a story about a pig that ate a small child. Sanchez says it made him not want to eat pork. He now thinks it was a sign his older relatives were practicing Judaism in secret – as a "crypto Jew." Father Sanchez is now balancing his priesthood with his Jewish ancestry.
