Interview: Bernadette Martinez

(KRQE) - Martinez is an Albuquerque businesswoman with family roots in New Mexico's Pojoaque Valley that go back hundreds of years. Like many New Mexicans, Martinez and her family had always believed their family history was simple; that they were the descendants of Spaniards who settled in New Mexico. After reading UNM professor Stanley Hordes' book "To the End of the Earth: A History of Crypto-Jews in New Mexico," Martinez decided to undergo DNA testing three years ago. The test confirmed she has Jewish ancestry. She is now actively investigating her family’s hidden history, and working on a related project with Father Bill Sanchez.
