ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Governor Susana Martinez has announced plans to form a new task force to help tackle child hunger.
2010 Statistics from the Children, Youth and Famlies Department say there are more than 220,000 children in New Mexico using Federal Nutrition programs every year.
Governor Martinez wants to pool together all the different resources available to help these children. This includes state agencies, advocacy groups, food providers, school districts, nutrition experts and the feds to help identify gaps in services.
The task force will also determine the best use of those resources.
Community Resource Director for Cuidando Los Ninos, Maria Gundy, says her organization uses that money to feed hungry children every day.
The Governor is expected to announce the specifics of the plan Tuesday afternoon at Cuidando Los Ninos.
