ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Cantaloupes from Colorado are back in the supermarket about a year after one of the nation's deadliest listeria outbreaks.
The outbreak killed 30 people including five New Mexicans.
Farmers in the two southern Colorado counties that produce the melons have spent $800,000 on safety upgrades to restore the fruit's reputation.
They include a new tracking system to prevent future outbreaks, new picking and packing techniques and traceable codes to allow shoppers to see where their fruit came from.
