ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Funeral plans have just been announced for House Speaker Ben Lujan.

He will be remembered over the course of three days.

Lujan, who was 77-years-old, had been battling lung cancer.

The long-time state legislator announced less than a year ago that he was retiring from public service because of his illness.

  • Public visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Rotunda of the New Mexico State Capitol.
  • A second visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ben Lujan Gymnasium in Pojoaque with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
  • A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at The Basilica Cathedral of St. Francis in Santa Fe with interment to follow at Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Cemetery in Nambe.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the UNM Cancer Center or to the Speaker Ben Lujan Scholarship Memorial Fund at any Century Bank Branch.
