ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A former volunteer New Mexico firefighter was arrested on rape and kidnapping charges. Jason Darnell, 22, allegedly met a woman on MySpace.
According to the criminal complaint, Darnell talked with the woman via instant messages and e-mail. He claimed to be a firefighter and "portrayed himself as a considerate guy." They allegedly coordinated a date.
Darnell picked the woman up at 6 p.m. on March 27, according to police reports. They had agreed to go to dinner and a movie, previously, but when Darnell picked up the woman, he allegedly said the movie did not start for a while and that he "needed to go to his hotel room." She went with Darnell where they eventually started to kiss.
However, at this point, the victim claimed she tried to stop Darnell from going further, but he forced himself on her.
After investigation, KRQE found out that Darnell was a volunteer firefighter until 2.5 years ago, when he was under investigation for an unrelated incident.
Darnell is in police custody, charged with criminal sexual penetration, a second-degree felony, and kidnapping, a first-degree felony.
