CLINES CORNERS, N.M. (KRQE) - The winter storm that blew across New Mexico Monday and early Tuesday left behind snow, slick roads and extremely cold temperatures.

Roads in Santa Fe were icy and slick as well this morning.

It snowed in the City Different again overnight so there was a fresh layer of snow and ice on the roads Tuesday

morning.

Roswell has its share of bad road conditions as well with Roswell police reporting pavement to be very slick.

Earlier coverage:

As temperatures and visibility dropped on Interstate 40, poor driving conditions were blamed for several car crashes.

At 6 a.m. Tuesday NMDOT was listing Interstate 25 from near Santa Fe to the Colorado state line as requiring extra caution:

  • Interstate 25 Northbound and Southbound from mile marker 388 to mile marker 455.
  • I-25 corridor, difficult driving conditions from Wagon Mound to Raton Pass, icy road conditions, crews are out salting and sanding, drivers use caution and reduce speed.
  • Interstate 25 Northbound and Southbound from mile marker 298 to mile marker 460, 2 miles South of Glorieta.
  • I-25 corridor, difficult driving conditions, from mile marker 298 to mile marker 460, icy in spots, between Glorieta and Springer. Crews are out plowing, salting and sanding. Drivers use caution and reduce their speed in this area.

On I-40 mist and fog made it hard to see heading east near Clines Corners on Monday night.

Icy roads made many car slide off the road.

One truck was spotted turned over on its side in between Clines Corners and Santa Rosa.

Blowing snow also made it tough to see the road as well.

At one point, a News 13 crew could not see more than a few car lengths in front of them.

Some truckers parked at the Clines Corners Travel Center to wait the winter weather out until it was safe to drive.

Truck driver Sandra Williams said her company made her stay put.

"I can't move, not until they lift the mandatory shut down," Williams said. "It could be all night sometimes, so it all depends when the weather department sends us a message, that's when we can go."

The snow will taper off taper off eventually, but the temperatures will remain in the teens.

Ice could be problem well into the morning hours, but interstate 40 remains open all the way to the Texas border.
