Winter storm dumps rain, knocks out power

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Winter weather is moving across the state, and so far it's to blame for at least two power outages in the East Mountains and metro Albuquerque.

Earlier Friday afternoon, the storm knocked out power to more than 7,500 PNM customers in the East Mountains.  Crews restored service by 5:00 p.m.

The outage was blamed on lightning hitting a device that protects other equipment from lightning strikes.

After-school activities were canceled at Vista Grande Community Center because of the outage. A blown transformer, also weather-related, caused another power outage in northeast Albuquerque.

PNM officials expected power to be restored in that area by 7:30 p.m. Friday.
