ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - Rainfall totals up to 3.5 inches soaked Roswell and central Chaves County Sunday night and early Monday as runoff closed roads amid reports of cars floating away.

The Roswell Police Department reported receiving numerous calls for assistance prompted by the storms that hit just before midnight and at about 3 a.m. The report of cars washing away came from County Road 265 east of Roswell.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesman for Xcel Energy said nearly 1,000 customers lost electrical service Sunday night with power restored before the second, more violent storm hit. At 10 a.m. Monday as many as 500 customers were without service with no estimate of when it would be restored, the spokesman said.
