EAST MOUNTAINS, N.M. (KRQE) – A fresh blanket of snow covered many areas of the East Mountains after a wintry blast hit on Sunday afternoon.
Blowing snow caused poor visibility on Interstate 40 heading east, but temperatures were too warm for the snow to stick on the ground.
Melting snow has made many unpaved roads in East Mountain communities very muddy.
Debbie Baca lives in Sandia Park and said some of the roads were slick on Sunday.
"We just came back from the Crest area and a lot of people were spinning off the road because they were driving too fast," Baca said.
No serious crashes were reported.
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing late Sunday into Monday, causing some roads to become icy.
More winter weather is in the forecast this week.
