Snow upsets schedules, travel plans

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The last week of winter began with no hint that spring is just around the snowy corner.

Not only did you lose an hour of sleep this weekend, but your work week might be delayed for two hours because of the snowy weather outside.

Overnight in the East Mountains on Interstate 40 Sunday night plow trucks were trying their best to keep up with the snow that kept piling up.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation was warning about severe driving conditions in one of the usual spots, Sedillo Hill at the head of Tijeras Canyon.

Schools and public agencies announced delayed openings Monday morning in communities across northwestern, north-central and northeastern New Mexico.

The DOT at 6 a.m. Monday listed these road conditions with more detail about other roads on its Web site:

I-25, Difficult Driving Conditions snowing lightly, road is snow packed and icy in areas and has icy spots in areas from mile marker 299 to mile marker 381 (Glorieta to Wagon Mound). Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering.
I-40, Fair Driving Conditions road is wet and drying from mile marker 300 to mile marker 321 (Newkirk to Montoya). Crews have plowed, salted, cindered.

NM 104, Difficult Driving Conditions snow packed and icy, wind is blowing from mile marker 0 to mile marker 75. Crews are out plowing, salting, and cindering. Motorists are to use caution and reduce their speed in this area.

NM 518, Difficult Driving Conditions, icy spots from mile marker 1 to mile marker 43.3 (Las Vegas to Holman Hill). Crews have plowed, salted, and cindered.

NM 434, Difficult Driving Conditions, icy spots from mile marker 0 to mile marker 26 (Mora to NM Jct. 120). Crews have plowed, salted, and cindered.
