Apartment fire and gas outage problems cost a lot

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The local chapter of the Red Cross is asking for donations after spending more than $25,000 providing assistance to victims of the statewide gas outage and a massive apartment fire Friday.

The Royal Crown Apartments on Gibson Boulevard was a total loss, with flare-ups still occurring until Monday. The Red Cross placed about 35 people into local hotel rooms after this fire.

Because the Red Cross does not provide long-term housing, the organization is now working with its community partners such as the United Way to get those residents into more permanent housing.
