ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - With the federal budget in question there's concern that some of New Mexico’s national parks and forests could be in jeopardy.

Environment New Mexico talked Wednesday about the potential threat to the federal land and water conservation fund which has helped protect 25 different sites across New Mexico.

They include Chaco Canyon, Bandalier National Monment and prices dairy in the south valley.

With so many budget cuts expected environment New Mexico fears this fund could get cut.

“This comes at a time when congress is making serious decisions about our budget, how our land and parks and forests will be affected,” Rikki Seguin said.

The group says Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich have been key in protecting sacred new Mexico sites, they're urging the public to reach out to them to ensure continued protection.
