NEW MEXICO (AP) - A blanket of snow covered parts of New Mexico on Saturday morning, and weather forecasters say more snow and strong winds were expected to hit the southern part of the state later in the day.

The National Weather Service says the Mogollon area in southwestern New Mexico received 27 inches of snow, while the Dulce and Chama areas in northern New Mexico were hit with about 2 feet of snow.

Between one and three inches fell across the west-central and south-central areas overnight.

State police Lt. Eric Garcia says no major roads were closed because of the snow, but he urged drivers to be cautious as many roads remained snowpacked and icy on Saturday.

Winter weather and wind advisories remain in effect for much of the state.
