Kiss that hour of sleep good-bye

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Don't forget to set your clocks forward this weekend as daylight saving time kicks in early Sunday.

While many people reset their clocks Saturday night or wander around the house later on Sunday morning do the job, standard time officially ends at 2 a.m. Sunday when the time advances to 3 a.m.

Standard time returns with the extra hour of sleep on the first Sunday in November.

Through 2006 daylight saving time ran from the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October but was extend a month by congressional action and President Bush's signature. In theory the shift better accommodates most people's work hours while saving energy and reducing traffic accidents and crime.

State officials are using the switch as part of a twice-a-year effort to encourage residents to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and to update family emergency plans.
