TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) - Two men, one of them suffering from some type of injury, were rescued from the Rio Grande Gorge northwest of Taos Wednesday morning.
The New Mexico State Police search-and-rescue team along with the Taos Volunteer Fire Department and the National Guard worked the rescue together.
The National Guard used one its helicopters to airlift them out.
The two were floating down the Rio Grande Tuesday night, and when they got out of their raft, one of them got hurt.
Their identities and the extent of the one man's injuries have not yet been released.
The depth of the gorge beneath the U.S. Highway 64 bridge is approximately 650 feet.
