SANTA FE (KRQE) - Two fires spotted Thursday in the Jemez Mountains are continuing to grow as firefighters struggle to build containment lines.
The South Fork Fire now stands at 260 acres and is zero percent contained, according to an updated from the Santa Fe National Forest late Friday afternoon. The blaze is churning through ponderosa pine and mixed conifer about two miles southwest of Polvadera Peak.
Helicopters are doing water drops on the fire with ground efforts including two engines and two Type 1 hotshot crews.
The Red Fern Fire about 13 miles east of Cuba is reported at 120 acres and also is zero percent contained.
The fire is threatening one cabin and is reported to have burned a historic outhouse Thursday.
The Forest Service did not provide details on the history of the outhouse.
