TORRANCE COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) - Forestry officials confirmed Sunday that the Ojo Springs Fire is burning in Torrance County in the Manzano Mountains.

So far the blaze has only burned six acres and no structures are threatened. However, crews are watching it closely.

It is thought that the fire was started by a lightning strike.

The region is no stranger to fire. For four weeks in April and May of last year, the Trigo Fire burned 14,000 acres in the Manzanos.

That blaze destroyed 59 homes.

The communities of Torreon and Tajique were threatened again a month later in June when the Big Springs Fire rolled through the region.
