Bernalillo County Permissible Fireworks

  • Must not shoot higher than 10 feet
  • Must not shoot outside a 6 foot radius on the ground
  • Must not have a report louder than a paper pistol cap

The Bernalillo County Commission has approved a ban on some fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the County. The ban applies to the sale and use of missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, stick-type rockets and ground audible devices.

City of Albuquerque Fireworks Information

Permissible Fireworks are the same for Bernalillo County but other restrictions may apply.

Members of the Albuquerque Fire Department, including the Fire Marshal's office, fire investigations and general firefighters will patrol for illegal and unsafe fireworks.

People who want to report illegal fireworks can call the Albuquerque Fire Department at 505-833-7335. The fire department is bringing in extra staffing for that line from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. between July 2 and July 5, according to Capt. Mike Paiz.

Albuquerque's 3-1-1 hotline will accept reports of missing pets or pets who have gone loose. Animal Services will pick up and care for pets, and city officials said pet owners who have had their pets microchipped will be able to get them back for free during the holiday.

New Mexico State Fireworks Restrictions

Fireworks: Prohibited in all state and private wildlands outside city or tribal jurisdictions. Wildland areas include lands covered wholly or in part by timber, brush, grass, grain or other flammable vegetation. Exceptions are allowed for fire department approved public exhibits.

Please note: These could be the restrictions put in place by the managers of federal lands. However, individual areas may add restrictions, remove restrictions or change the exemptions based on conditions. For the most detailed and current restrictions and closures for the area you plan to visit, please contact the land manager in that area or visit the South Western Coordination Center website.

Call your local fire department for your town, city or county fireworks restrictions.
