ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - In anticipation of the July 4th holiday weekend the U.S. Forest Service is reminding visitors that all fireworks are prohibited in national forests.
Bringing fireworks onto national forest lands can be punished with a fine up to $10,000 and jail time of up to six months, the Forest Service told KRQE News 13 .
Forest Service personnel will be patrolling the forests over the holiday weekend to make sure that no one is setting off fireworks.
There are currently no fire restrictions in most of the national forest in New Mexcio, and the Forest Service is asking that everyone take all safety precautions when in the forest or enjoying a campfire.
