TIMBERON, N.M. (AP) - A wildfire that destroyed three homes and damaged a fourth in the small mountain community of Timberon is now 40 percent contained.
The blaze has charred an estimated 140 acres of ponderosa pine, piñon and juniper on private land.
Fire officials said the blaze also burned five outbuildings, such as sheds and garages, and 10 vehicles.
State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware said no other structures are threatened.
Twenty homes were evacuated in the community about 30 miles from Cloudcroft, and those evacuations remained in effect Friday.
Fire crews were continuing to patrol and work on hot spots. Ware said the containment lines are holding.
The cause of the fire, which broke out Wednesday, remains under investigation.
