ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Another black bear was removed from a Northeast Albuquerque neighborhood Sunday. The 150-pound bear ran up a tree and hid from Bernalillo County Sheriff Deputies and Game Wardens for almost two-and-a-half hours.
About five minutes after the female bear was shot with a tranquilizer dart, it safety fell into a tarp. Game Wardens let neighbors get a close-up look at the bear.
"It looked huge from the tree," said Chris Hall, a bear enthusiast and neighbor. "Then, when you see it on the ground, it looks much smaller. This one has actually had cubs already. You wouldn't know that."
The bear was taken to the Manzano Mountains east of Belen.
Game Wardens said there have been about 30 bear sightings since the beginning of the year in the Albuquerque area - that is much higher than usual.
