RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - A bizarre domestic dispute in Southeast Rio Rancho.
Police say a father beat up an elderly woman to get to his little girl.
Police say 30-year-old Nick Mayes, who might have mental issues, had his 6-year-old son in the car when he pulled up to his mother-in-law's house.
Police say the man claimed he had a gun, but that didn't stop his mother-in-law and her roommates from blocking the door, trying to protect his 4-year-old daughter.
Police say Mayes punched one of the three women living there, three times, then kicked her and pushed his mother-in-law.
Mayes allegedly took his daughter and drove her and his son to his home in the same neighborhood where Rio Rancho Police were already waiting for him.
"Officers were forced to physically remove him from the car and had to utilize the taser to get him into custody and at this time he is at the hospital here in Rio Rancho to receive treatment and evaluation to make sure he is healthy enough to be booked," said Sgt. Nicholas Onken of Rio Rancho Police.
Mayes was arrested and police say he is being charged with five counts of aggravated assault, battery, child abuse, and resisting arrest.
Despite claims Mayes had a gun, police say they didn't find one.
