ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - University of New Mexico students could be paying a lot more for wireless Internet, classroom technology and shared computers. The Albuquerque Journal reports the school's technical department is asking for $3 million in student fees next year, or 10 times what students are paying now, to cover costs.
Full-time students who currently pay $10 a year in fees for information services would pay $128. Students pay fees on top of tuition.
Last year, the department lost $2 million in funding from state appropriations. The department has a budget of $27 million.
An Information Technologies Department spokeswoman says universities similar to UNM charge students an average of $215 in student fees each year for Internet services.
