ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico has another race team headed for the Indy 500, but this crew is powered by the sun.
Engineering students at UNM unveiled their "Lobo Del Sol" solar car.
It will race against eleven others from around the world in a closed course at Indy.
Students design, build and drive the car by themselves.
“We expect to win that race. We have put in a lot of time, so, yeah, we want to win,” UNM engineering student Santiago Sena said.
Solar car competitions have helped spawn better batteries and composite materials for today's hybrid and electric cars.
